- In Canton Ticino in southern Switerland. It is about 60 minutes away from Milan, by train.
Where will I live in Switzerland?
- In the Hotel Montarina
Do I need to know Italian?
- No, there will be Italian instruction in Switzerland
Will there be time to explore and travel in Europe?
- Yes, It is required. You MUST travel to 10 different historical/cultural locations, which means you get to pick 4 on your own. If you would like a city to count towards your 10 and it is not on this list, please check with me for a list of required sights.
Will I have access to the internet while in Switzerland?
- Yes. The Montarina has internet access, as does the university where students take classes
How many suitcases can I take?
- You will be allowed to take two checked bags (50 pounds per bag) and one carry-on bag. Try to pack lightly; almost anything you find you need can be purchased in Europe, and you will want to save room for souveniers.
Should I purchase a Youth Hostel card?
- Most former students advise against purchasing the card. It is helpful, though, to bring your Hokie Passport so as to take advantage of student rates whenever they are offered in places like museums.
Can I stay in Europe beyond the end of the program?
- Yes, some previous students have done this. There is typically a $100 - $150 charge for changing the return date on your ticket.
Should I bring travellers checks or other foreign currency?
- No, ATMs are just as prevalent in Europe as in the United States. The best source of money is an ATM card that draws from a checking (as opposed to savings) account.
